There seems to be a political issue where the guy's had a run in with the local authorities for refusing to donate money to support their campaign. At least, that's what I remember from a few months ago when the police arrived at his compound and shot his dog (I didn't read this latest story but I was saddened to hear that any part of the commonwealth operated in such a corrupt fashion!)

Basically, it sounds like a typical protection racket gone wrong to me.

He's been on the lam for quite a while. There was some political brouhaha that he was on the wrong end of. He fled the country and has been in hiding ever since. I'm inclined to believe his version of things more than theirs.

Jimmypoo, keep an eye out for my old, stolen Suburban. I almost drove into Belize but chickened out at the border crossing because there were reports of tourists' cars being stopped and then robbed. At least they speak English.
