Intended use is really a separate issue.
I've never done carfax, but I have paid mechanic shop a hundred bucks to look for potential problems.
If nothing else you might find some warrantee or safety recalls that need to be done.

Here in Florida, any Hybrid or any motorcycle can use the HOV lane at any time. Hybrids get a registration sticker with a green box around it. So even a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid gets in. Or you can just print a green box around you regular sticker and get by with any car

Ah...I posted too quickly and garnered a lot of howls of protest...the HOV lanes permit a single driver with specific high MPG cars.
I like the idea of a mechanic overlooking the car, but the car is in CT while I live in NY. I doubt that they'll be amenable to that. Does anyone know of a reputable mechanic in Greenwich, CT?

Wowzer,
No doubt you can find a lemon checker - a company that specializes in inspecting used cars for potential purchasers - in Greenwich. But, have you looked locally for an eligible car? I can't imagine that there aren't any on Long Island. But, you may not find one with such low mileage. I think a more important question to ask, is this worth it just for the privilege of using the HOV lane? Personally, if I had the option, I'd avoid the LIE entirely!
