Avengers appropriate for 7 and 5-y/o boys?
#1
Hi,

A friend of mine took his twin 7th graders to the Avengers over the weekend and he was telling me that he thought it would be okay for my 7 and 5-y/o sons to see it.

He said the violence wasn't anything they probably haven't already seen (shooting, fires, etc.) and there was not too much in the way of sexual innuendo, really bad language, etc.

It's rated PG-13 and I looked up the descriptions of the content on IMDB and it's true, it doesn't really sound that bad.

My sons have seen the Star Wars movies and Harry Potter 1 and 2 and haven't had any issues with the violence or scary scenes in any of those movies.

Anyway, I just wanted to solicit opinions from those of you who've seen the movie to see what you think. Thanks.

If they can handle HP & Star Wars, they'll be fine with Avengers. Definitely a bit more violence, but nothing gory.

Great superhero movie BTW.

I took my eight year old and his friend to see it on Saturday. They did not think it was very violent. In fact, they were concerned that there was too much talking (which they did not quite understand) and not enough action.

Should be fine. The 5 year old might not get a lot of what's happening but the talking is broken up with enough action that he should have a good time. One guy gets his eyeball violently sucked out but I think that was the most graphic of the violence.

I must say my thoughts about the movie going in were that there were too many "big" characters competing for screen time and that it'd be a sfx driven mishmash that at best, I would be able to sit through for 2 hours.

I admit I was wrong - they managed to make it a pretty cohesive movie by having all the individual characters pretty much take a back seat so the "team" aspect could come forward. I hereby eat crow.

There was a kid behind us last night at The Avengers I'd say he was about 5. He must have asked his Dad a
1000 questions. It was cute at first but became a bit annoying. We didn't take a our sons to movies such as
that when they were that young. To each his own I say.

I've seen it twice now (girlfriend wanted to see it again).

They'll be fine and have a great time. Have fun.

I would take some earplugs for them along too just in case. I took my 10 year old son and the theater we saw it in was incredibly loud. I agree with others though...very entertaining and should be fine for your boys!
