Obama responding to Republican lies
#21
If taken in context I read it as meaning that the private sector is doing fine in terms of beginning to grow again, while the public sector is not doing fine because it is shrinking instead of beginning to grow. Out of context it sounds stupid.

I am glad we can talk about this instead of WHY the private sector gained jobs while the public sector lost them, because this is easy to discuss while the latter topic would be too hard and no fun at all.

He was talking about the private sector relative to the public sector, which includes firemen, policemen, and teachers.

I think just the fact that we moved beyond questioning the basic composition of the thread to at least nominally discussing politics was a significant achievement here.

You must not be paying attention to Obama.

I meant to answer this from the start but got distracted by the silly. I agree with you. One thing that has bugged me about Democrats is the way they think the smell will go away if you just ignore it...

Every time Obama goes off prompters he screws up.

So did Bush. What's your point?

the teleprompter is a BIG DEAL among the looney right - no idea why...

Do people really think these politicians just wing it?

It's not complicated. Black man can't possibly have the verbal skills to speak coherently/eloquently/intelligently unless reading verbatim from a script written by someone else.

BTW hal you are correct-- I hadn't read up on the "private sector fine" outrage-- I used it as a springboard toward discussion of whether responding to every jab is the way to go, but "lie" is not the best characterization.

I always have to think back to GHWB's repeated attack on Dukakis as "A card carrying member of the ACLU." I wanted so badly for Dukakis to respond with a basic explanation of what the ACLU is and what it does for the unwashed masses, but I guess that seemed like giving too much credence to what at the time seemed like a very slimy tactic (but now in retrospect seems mild . . .).
