I would like to attach a usb hard drive to a blueray dvd player's usb port for playback of movies. The room has no wired ethernet so I would need to access it wirelessly. Are there any recommendations? Thanks.

I edited to hopefully clarify. The drive needs to connect to the blueray player via the usb port. I want to access the drive to update content wirelessly though. So I'm looking for a NAS that would allow this. Something basic.

So you want a hard drive that can appear on a wireless network without being connected to a computer.
Does such a thing exist?

I don't know if that will work, you want the said hard drive to have two active interfaces, one USB and another one over WiFi (or Ethernet if you had a wired network available). I doubt this is possible.
why not get a cheap portable 2.5" drive and move it around as needed?

It would be cheaper to get a Blu-Ray player with WiFi and DLNA built-in and let that access the hard drive that is connects to a computer that is also on the network.

why not just an appletv? is there reason this needs to get routed through the bluray player?

This is actually for my father-in-law so I don't have control over the existing equipment. They live two houses away from me and I can join their wireless network and send them video's BUT I have to have somewhere to send the video's. That's why I was hoping a NAS would work. It sounds like it won't work via both interfaces at the same time according to space-time so that idea is probably shot. I'll have to do something else. We are currently doing sneaker-net but I was hoping for something slicker without breaking the bank.
