Is it flu or just a cold? Diagnosis can be difficult

I had the flu once when I was young. There is no mistaking it for a cold.

Yes it can . At least the current strain .

I had a "mild" case of the flu one year when the strains didn't match the shot very well. There's no mistaking the difference.

If you have a persistent low level infection in sinuses any cold or flu virii can head you down the road to pneumonia.
Unless you actually go in and get a lab or clinic test you don't know what you have beyond conjecture and faith in correlation of symptoms.

'Ooh, that cold really wiped me out so it must have been the flu' is not a test.

Severe fatigue and fever over 102 is definitely flu. Those are not symptoms of a cold.

Achy all over is also a sign of the flu.

thought I had the flu. 3 day with temps between 101 and 102.
Joints and muscle aches. Head ache and a couple hours of severe shakes.
Just got back from the doctor and found out I have a prostate infection.
