I love Little Snitch. I wouldn't set up a system without it. If you are using Adobe apps, you will love it.

Concur. And you'll be amazed at how many apps "phone home."

It was Little Snitch that clued me in to the fact that Adobe Updater doesn't quit trying to phone home if you quit the app. You have to use Activity Monitor (or is it Activity Viewer?) to force the zombie activity to stop.

And it has managed to resurrect itself, as of today: i had zipped every instance of Adobe Updater on my system, but it showed up this morning in an apparently fresh incarnation.

In its zealous attempts to beat piracy, Adobe has become a de facto producer of sneakware, installing all manner of phantom processes onto machines that are nearly impossible to remove. Of course, it's still totally possible to beat these systems if you're determined (hence Adobe's imminent move to an online, subscription-based system), but for the rest of the user base, it's just a crappy software model.

Edit: P.S., even for stand-up, legitimate users, Little Snitch is a great program to have. Just because i own software doesn't mean that i consent to processes constantly talking to the cloud. Also, Little Snitch is frequently included in bundles, if this price is still too steep...

I have been interested in LS since it gets mentioned here over the years. But I am not sure what it would do for me. Does it only monitor outgoing traffic from the computer it is installed on? That doesn't get me very much because we don't use our mac for that much. I would be much more interested in something that monitored all outgoing network activity across all devices, computers and ipods/pads/phones (on my airport network).

You can do that by installing Tomato or dd-wrt on your router, then doing a lot of work to configure it.

If your iDevices are jailbroken, you can install Firewall IP, which allows you to control IP traffic similar to Little Snitch.
