I agree. Requiring people to use real names can have a moderating effect. However, the only way a forum where controversial topics are discussed can succeed is by enforcing strict rules of civility, and that means someone has to spend time moderating.

Inevitably people turn on moderators. The DM mods were constantly accused of bias and unfairness. The people who lack self control on their own behavior usually look for others to blame when their ability to antagonize others is taken away.
