steampunk or antique flashlights?
#1
I'd like to start my christmas shopping early this year. I'm looking for a flashlight for my brother. I know he likes steampunk as well as antique lights. I'd like it to be a useable light and not "just" for show although it would certainly be for show. Any suggestions? I'll be googling but I know there are fellow flashlight enthusiasts here that may have helpful insight. Thanks.

Steampunk- grudgingly post-Faraday, absolutely opposed to anything Westinghouse Polyphase.
How about Calcium Carbide and Water?

Just enough dangerous to be fun.

I had that Eveready penlight.

You might consider giving him something like a really cool USN battle lantern.

Those may be found in the overhead, but they don't grow on trees.

One contender is The Prometheus which is possibly the coolest flashlight I have ever seen. I am 90% sure I am going to order one for myself in the morning. I think it would be too small for my brother though. I also don't think he enjoys extra things on his keychain. http://darksucks.com/store_BetaQR.html#

A strong contender is a RayShop M8105 that I found on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/RayShop-5-Mode...105+flashlight . The cost is very reasonable and the vintage look is really nice. It has an LED bulb though which makes it very usable. It also uses 18650 batteries which should give it a nice long use time. Price is low enough that I worry about quality though.

I also found a very cool looking actual vintage lamp on eBay, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Wood...MakeTrack=true . It is extremely attractive. I'm not sure about the bulb or the battery though. Could I buy a new bulb for it today or would it become useless if it burned out? I am not even sure what battery it does take

Thanks and keep the ideas flowing

I can't seem to copy a web URL since upgrading my iPad to IOS8. I have to email it and copy URL from there. Not sure why. Hopefully this link works.
