I am stuck in Nine West with the wife, who is shopping for shoes. She periodically comes to ask me if a pair of shoes looks good. Doesn't she know that I'm genetically programmed to not care at all about shoes? I ask her if she doesn't already have 2 other pairs at home, exactly the same. She replies that the ones at home don't fit anymore. If she already has them at home, then why does she need to ask me if they look good?
I wish our daughter were here....the girls could shop till they drop. I work so that they may enjoy the shopping...but to ask if a particular pair of shoes were better looking than another pair is sheer torture.
I'd rather be at work than to answer these question...
Help, please....some sympathy is all I need.
I know I'm gonna catch some talk about how I could be better adjusted to my darling's needs, but couldn't I just be put out of mymisery first? :-)

I think you should drag her around to look at stuff that will bore the snot out of her to give her a sense of what it's like for you to spend your time this way. I have never in my life dragged a significant other around with me to watch me buy shoes. But I also never go to malls, and if that's where you shop, I can see how one might get sucked in to these situations. Still, as a woman, I find the whole scenario too reminiscent of 1950s and '60s sitcoms to be comfortable with it.

KJ, I'm not sure that would work....if I go shopping, I walk in, pick what I want and lay down my CC and am out in 5-10 min tops. If it takes longer than that, I just don't buy it...and I never try out clothes/shoes to see what it looks like. How could I possibly even bore her with that? Besides, I don't want to encourage her to think that this is okay.
Lastly, its been about 45 minutes in Nine West...after looking at 10-12 pairs, we've settled upon 2 pairs. How can stores like this survive? I've watched 8 or 9 women do similar things and not buy a thing...

The last pair of shoes that I bought involved less than 3 minutes in the store. PayLess Shoes. I walked in. Found what I needed. Found my size. Tried them on. Paid. Out the door. 3 minutes. I actually timed it because I was listening to music on my iPhone at the time. Song started on the way in and was almost over on the way out.

Take her to one of those international auto shows, and spend all day there looking at, and talking cars.
Make sure to involve her in your auto discussions and participating in all of the scene.

the trend toward "lifestyle centers" (IOW, plazas with separate stores) instead of malls is really bad in these sorts of situations. I'm assuming by your tone, you could not escape to another shop.
