Pet Clipper

One of our pooches is a PIA to groomers. She is so jitterish that it's difficult for a groomer to finish hair-cutting her in one sitting. We figured it would be better to do it in a few session at a time at home. So which cordless or corded clipper would you recommend? Our budget is $100. The PIA is a 8 lbs Maltese-Poodle princess ... it's the Wife's fault. My dog is well behaved at grooming

We use Andis clippers, they're the same kind the groomers use. Plug-in. Not sure cordless batt would last too long on our shepherd mix (and our Scotties, RIP sweet, proud girls), her hair is thick and copious! I want to say we bought them on Amazon. Caveat: blades do need oil and sharpening/replacement from time to time. I think that'll hold with any set, though.

Be sure to also read reviews that correspond to the kind of fur your dog has...our Andis set often gets too hot after 5-10 minutes and it shouldn't. We're wondering if we just got a defective set.

When I was researching about a year ago I read multiple things saying to never use clippers designed for human hair on a dog. Do you have experience otherwise?

I vaguely recall my wife having a grooming clipper when she went through her doggie grooming aprenticeship that was an actual motor rather than a vibrating solenoid design. It was expensive, but scads quieter and cooler. This sort of thing. Proper care was critical. blades needed to be lubricated and kept sharp, guides were critical, etc... Doggies have much tougher hair than humans, especially doggies with complex multi layer coats.

She abandoned the process when Baby #1 showed up, and the clipper died and was scrapped. We ended up with a cheap vibrating set recently and tried to trim a Pomeranian. And gave up and went to a pro.
