Dog Owners, Dog Poop..things that Dog Owners dont think of
#11
I've heard that applying a heavy dose of cayenne and black pepper to the lawn regularly can keep dogs away.

Or rig up an electronic device that emits a frequency only dogs can hear. My neighbor did this to keep the annoying neighbors dogs from barking at him and his kids everytime they are in their own backyard.

Bad form, dog owners! I walk two dogs twice a day, always with bags to pick up after them. Every dog walker needs to pick up.

I like the suggestion of mounting one of those official little "Lawn Treated with Poisonous Chemicals" signs.

But that would work only for dogs who can read...

Thought I read somewhere dog urine and feces is a major contributor to groundwater pollution.

But I'm not a dog owner, so take my endorsement of the passive-aggressive measures above regarding pepper or water with the appropriate grain of salt.

To me this is like the "what should I do about the spiders/wasps living 10 ft. from my door ... ? forum threads. Putting up with feces and urine on your lawn is just plain silly.

In short, if you have a dog but lack a proper environment or lifestyle to properly take care of it without harming the dog or your neighbor, YES you are being selfish or careless.

I just spent 4 days walking around Denver and the dog crap situation is out of control there.... you have to watch the sidewalk everywhere and you get 'the smell' somewhere in every block. Makes me realize my block isn't quite so bad.
There's an amazing quantity of early Craftsman home architecture in the neighborhoods there (and a spattering of Queen Annes) but when I try to picture any of it the dog doo smell accompanies my mind's eye....

What I really like is when my neighbors put their baggies in my recycling bin!

I live in Baltimore City, and green lawn is very scarce here. One very annoying habit of dog walkers around here is picking up the dog waste and then, instead of carrying it home in the bag to dispose of it, dropping it in the gutter. Bastards.

Irresponsible people come from all walks of life pet owners or not. As a dog owner myself it irritates me to no end when I see doggie poop left on other people's lawns/driveway. I just have no to very low tolerance of irresponsible people. Period. Now as far as where dogs should do their business, there is no way to please folks. I have had people get all riled up when they see dogs doing their business on public sidewalk or anywhere but inside the dog owners' homes.
