"Verizon to Netflix: Here’s a cease-and-desist letter. Can you hear me now?"

Would rather have kept Clear. Except for some outages in inclement weather, I averaged more than double the download for just a bit more dollars per month. Sometimes I saw speeds at my home as high as 9 Mbps down and .5-1 Mbps up. I think my price would have been $45-$50 month for a single service and possibly less if they kept feeding me deals (I was down to $50/month for two services over three months, then back up to $70 for two, or less if I dropped one service). And I don't have to get gauged for a landline either.

Have you considered DSLExtreme? In theory I can get 3000/768Kbps down/up over Verizon's line for $25 month for the first year and then $35/month thereafter. Should be DSL only service, no phone line. The other option I have is 1000/384Kbps down/up for $15 month for the first year and then $30/month thereafter. Maybe something similar near you? Have you tried the OWC ISP services? Fastermac.net or OWC.net? When I was still a dial-up customer, Fastermac.net was my favorite choice of the several ISP's I tried. Thinking DSL service would be pretty swell as well.

Promo? Included TV or other services? Comcast in my area is $65ish/month for 25 down and 5ish up. $30 for me right now, but I'm on a promo.

12 month promo. Preferred TV with DVR service and free HBO is $65/mo, also a 12 month promo.

Promo price for 2 MB down Internet only is $15/mo.

This could be good for the consumer. If Netflix can prove in court that Verizon is throttling, it might create a big enough backlash to force the feds to push net neutrality thru. Its time for broadband to be considered a utility and regulated as such.

I may be misreading the posts, but from various comments I get the feeling that everyone thinks I am in support of Verizon. Which is totally wrong. Just want to be clear about that.

No worries. Your original posting was neutral enough that I didn't read any intent. However, from prior conversations I doubted you were championing Verizon.

Last year, I got f*cked, megaf*cked and then f*cked some more when I tried to sign up for their data service. I hope Netflix can nail them to the wall.

Wow, I hear all these terrible ISP stories and I'm so glad I don't live in those places. I have 100mbit/sec download and I am getting it (just tested). Also 4.25mbit upload. I think it is supposed to be 5 but 4.25 is great.

There, fixed that for you.
