The new iPad mini 3 is an extreme disappointment and rip-off. It has the same specs as the older model except for the fingerprint ID. How can Apple call this an upgrade? At least the new iPad Air has a better processor and camera, plus faster WI-FI. None of these improvements were incorporated into the new mini. For $50 less you can buy the older model and get twice as much storage

True, but I won't complain too much as long as there are still new or refurb iPad mini 2 models on the market. Those are good deals.

Really thinking about this, $250 is reasonable.

However -- however -- I think we are gonna go with the Air for $340. $90 for the extra screen seems doable.

Anyone think the different? retina mini vs Air?

Same pixels, but the quality of the Air screen is supposed to be a bit better. Color gamut or something similar. I'd rather have the 32GB Mini 2 for $350 new than the 16GB Air for $340 refurb. Then again, refurb Mini 2 is $299 for 32GB and 64GB for $349. Get the 64GB refurb for $349 perhaps? Ample space. Could almost replace my current computer.

Thanks. The GB isn't important to us. And not looking to replace any computers. Everyone in the house has iMacs.

Unlike the phone -- with tons of picture/video taking and music -- the Pad will never be used like that. Mobile house browsing, netflix, hulu, pandora, etc. Or maybe a few videos when we go on vacation. But those can be deleted as needed.

The 128GB model could hold a fair amount of lossless audio...

If you were into that kind of thing.

Apps are pretty big (I have apps that are 500MB to 1GB each) and a full iPad seems to prevent OS updates these days, but if you don't need the space, you don't need the space. I feel you. I'd get the mini 2 and save the dough if you aren't doing anything demanding.
