Looking for wall-powered motion sensor switch

I want to put this in my garage, but leave the main overhead light circuit intact.

I have access to a wall socket, so don't want to use batteries.

This is one product from Amazon:

But there are a lot of negative reviews.

As this is for my wife's specific request, I thought I'd ask for real experts - MRFers!

Anyone happy with their motion sensor system and can make a recommendation?

interesting idea. Like most, the sensor range will be an issue. Usually they are set so they turn 'on' a light when you enter a dark space. The person then has 'x' minutes to turn on another light, or exit the space. Complaints about 'short range' make no sense.. these ARE short range devices.

We have industrial occupancy sensors at work on the overhead lights in zones. They're 'smart', but at lunch or after about 5 I tend to have to stand up and wave my hands periodically. Sensor range on those is perhaps 30 feet.

I'd be fine getting two - one by each pedestrian door to the garage.

Maybe the ones I tagged from Amazon will be fine, given your thoughts.

The lack of motion turns them off after a period of time, I think.

A nice surprise when my garage door opener bit the dust a few months ago is that the new one from Chamberlain has this feature built in. It IS handy to have the lights go on automatically every time I go into the garage, and it shuts off without me having to think about it.

Thanks, but one of the light switches is inside my house and not the garage.

I have one of these dealy-bobs:



I leave the light switch on, and this thing turns on the light when it senses motion, and turns it off some time later. If I want to turn it off _now_, I can turn off the light switch. If I want to turn it on _now_ (and not have to wave my hands around), I can flip the light switch off and then on, which works the same as it detecting motion. And this is on a three-way circuit (ie, two light switches, one light).

This may not work for your situation, but it's been fairly reliable, and obviously, you can't beat the simplicity of the install.

Ahh...sorry, I misunderstood.

I did try one of those delay-bobs between the bulb and the socket once, but it didn't work very well. It only worked sporadically...even wild body gestures made little difference. Had to return it.
