Erasing an iPhone that ATT Says is now unlocked
#1
I have my Daughters old iPhone 4S, that ATT supposedly unlocked a couple of months ago, but after we needed it for traveling out of the U.S.

Now I want to ERASE and start over and See that it actually is unlocked. I don't need to make a backup, as my daughter has moved on, and got her backup now on iCloud.

What can/should I do to reset/erase this phone and put back to factory and when will I see the message that it is indeed unlocked

Thanks

Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings should do what you want. You can also connect it to your Mac and do the same from iTunes.

Restore the phone using iTunes. If I recall correctly, either during or after the restore process finishes (but before you do the phone setup/copy files from backup) , you'll see a message that the phones unlocked.

From AT&T:

Here are your unlock instructions:

1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.

2. Ensure the original SIM card that came with this device is inserted in your iPhone.

3. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.

4. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.

5. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.

Additional information on unlocking can be found at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5014.

I like MEG's far more complete instructions better than mine.

Seems she wants to go with ATT straight talk, so no SIM change if we do that.

Recommendations? Good or bad?

No Contract?

3 Gig data?

Whats the best BANG for the buck with an unlocked iPhone 4S.???

Airvoice Wireless is what I use for my ATT iPhone 4. There is the start of another thread lower on the page: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1813677

I'm a light user, and it works for me, but can't speak to other options, really.
