Some jerk stole it! Find my Mac is turned on, has a good login PW, and I logging in to Find Mac and set it to erase. My question: since it was stolen, it has not been online, so will it go online automatically when the jerk opens it even if he cannot log on the the Mac? I haven't been able to locate it yet. I guess he hasn't even tried to get it working. It's backed up, set to erase disk, and it's a few years old, insured, so not really a huge money loss, but it is the highest end 15" model from 2010-11 (?).
Main thing is just the feeling of being violated by a knucklehead taking something from you. I call'em jerks.

Too bad you can't cause it to do a Samsung Galaxy 7 when he plugs it in.

Sadly, the only way Find My Mac will work is if it's turned on near a wifi signal that your MBP recognizes. Sorry for your loss. And yes... thieves are total jerks.

In place of Find my Mac, consider
Undercover. While FMM is great for lost or misplaced macs, Undercover is much more geared for recovering stolen macs. The thief will not even know it is in place or being used. It even surreptitiously photographs and sends a photo of the user to the supplied address.

But wait Ombligo, Undercover has to be already installed on stolen Mac, right?

I bought a 17" MBP on eBay years ago. Upon receipt, it looked fishy and I suspected it might be stolen. Lots of data left on it. My local Apple Store was of NO help in acertaining previous owner (even after I D'ed myself as a LEO). I poked around and found a name & phone #. Fellow said yes, his 17" MBP had been stolen. I invoiced MBP into my agency's Property Section. After quite a bit of hassle, it was shipped back to the Sheriff's Office in FL where the theft had been reported. This was before eBay's current policy and, I wound up getting reimbursed only $200! I got screwed out of $1600+. :villagers: :banghead:

Another vote for undercover, and yes, it has to be installed prior to being stolen. We got the household 5 pack, and they had $10 off promo at the time, so it was like getting the household pack for the single user price. If you catch the thief, unless they're under like about 14, cut off at least one of their body parts so that hopefully they'll remember not to steal in the future.
