Or words to that effect.

Kind of knew it from the first teaser trailer.

Hmmm... The comments
here suggest that for once the interference from the studio was an attempt to fix his massive screw-ups and ignorance of the comics rather than the usual strict commercialism and hive-mind stupidity.

Well, that one a decade ago wasn't broken, so why try to fix it?

It represents a problem to them that Disney has done so well with the Avengers. Every superhero movie now has to make a billion dollars and roll into a dozen other movies or it's not considered a success by the studios and investors.
Of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fox has exclusive licenses for most of the characters (Sony has Spider-Man and Disney has the Avengers), but has only been able to turn the X-Men into a franchise like the Avengers. With Hugh Jackman retiring from his role, there's little to sustain that franchise so they're probably putting it on hiatus for awhile until the series has faded a bit from memory and they think they can pull off another reboot. (If not a hiatus then probably more kiddie-X-Men movies for awhile because they lack the imagination to do anything with aging actors and no Wolverine.)
They can do any of dozens of non-X-men movies and the potential for them making some serious cash is nearly unlimited. Deadpool is a Fox property and it's likely to make a nice bit of money for them, excepting "
studio accounting."
But again, they think they need multiple multi-billion-dollar franchises to compete with Disney. In an attempt to gain a better foothold in this field, they're recycling characters that had previous successes and trying to put "spin" on them to make them modern and exciting while still "family friendly." Because that's how committees think they'll get people to go to the movies and buy Happy Meals with pictures of their characters on the boxes.

I bring it up as I just rewatched the 2005 Fantastic 4, and the 2007 "Silver Surfer" and they didn't suck.
