Never check for updates

frequent updates are a good thing™
:agree:

Frequent security updates are far better than the alternative. Microsoft went YEARS without updating IE. It was such a disaster, it would be hard to imagine how to make it worse.
:agree: as well. A Firefox update is usually done in the background and then I get a "restart Firefox?" type of dialog. Frequent updates are welcomed.

If you only want security/bug fixes and not major changes, download the ESR release of Firefox.

What rj and Black say above; one of the reasons I switched back to Firefox from Safari was that security breaches and quibbly problems were fixed more frequently.

Yes, me too, plus my versions of OS X are old enough, there are no updates for Safari.

I just updated to Firefox 39.0.3, it took approximately five seconds. Oh the horror...

For some, the thought of (shudder) restarting a browser, or (gasp) the entire machine, makes their bowels weak, and their stomach roil.

This is what we do and I don't find the process annoying or intrusive. it seems to be the best compromise.

Yep, works fine for me. Don't get me wrong, on mobile, I have to take the mainstream release as far as I can tell, and on Linux, most distros provide the mainstream builds as well (yes, I could switch to the ESR on Linux), but on my Macs, the ESR releases are fabulous.

I dislike AUTO updates. I think those are a form of security risk.

Happy to have the software autocheck, then ask me for permission to update.

I got frustrated with the constant requests too - so I now do auto update and never even think about while running to most recent version.

"Roiling Bowels" is a great name for a band...
