Genio Adware hit my Dad, AdwareMedic saved the day
#1
Dad does NOT have admin right on his account. He let my niece play online games. he complained that for the past few days, he was not able to write email from yahoo. he said he wasn't even able to click to start a message, and some other stuff appeared on the web page.

We were doing a FaceTime chat. I logged in (Thanks TeamViewer), didn't even bother to start Safari or FireFox to see what the problem was. I had AdwareMedic installed since my visit there a few weeks ago. I ran AdwareMedic (I let it update itself first), found a Genio and a few other adware things, I removed them. he then checked his yahoo mail, everything looked good.

BTW, Adware medic is now MalwareBytes for Mac. I donated earlier this year. makes cleaning a Mac so much easier.

Reboot after removing Genieo.

And check both the home page and the search engine setting in every browser.

Genieo changes those settings and AdwareMedic does not change those settings back.

AdwareMedic prompted to reboot. We did that. I reconnected, then he showed me that he can compose mail in Yahoo again.

I did not check search engines and home pages, will do that next time.

Are you sure? Do you have a link for the real one?
AdwareMedic has joined the
Malwarebytes family and is
now known as Malwarebytes
Anti-Malware for Mac.

I make a similar, frequent typo that goes the other way, typing now when I meant not.

I'm glad there's auto-correct as I can blame it, even though...

Yeah, I thought it must be a typo because weren't you one of the people who sent out a PSA for the changeover? Smile
