iOS 9 on an iPhone 4S
Hi everyone,
Just a few thoughts about iOS 9 on my iPhone 4s. So far, the biggest issue was my iPhone went kablooy during the update process. Not sure why but it ended up in recovery mode. Whatever happened also deleted every icloud backup I had of the phone. Fortunately, I had the foresight to sync and manually back it up prior to downloading the upgrade itself and starting the upgrade process. I had to restore the phone twice before it was 100% operational again.
My advice prior to upgrading the iOS of your phone is DON’T RELY ONLY ON ICLOUD BACKUPS OF YOUR PHONE. BACKUP TO ICLOUD BUT ALSO MANUALLY BACK UP YOUR PHONE OR IPAD!
I'LL REPEAT THE AFOREMENTIONED ADVICE:
DON’T RELY ONLY ON ICLOUD BACKUPS OF YOUR PHONE. BACKUP TO ICLOUD BUT ALSO MANUALLY BACK UP YOUR PHONE OR IPAD!
Now that I’ve said that, here’s my thoughts on iOs 9.
Don’t hesitate to put it on an iPhone 4S. Is it a tad slower at times than iOS 8.x? Yes. Enough that I notice it and/or care? No. The biggest issue I’ve come across isn’t the speed of OS related tasks and default apps. For example, Photos is a non-issue. It takes about the same amount of time for a shot to become viewable under iOS 9 as it did under iOS 8.x. Same goes for opening and closing default apps and using them.
3rd party apps are the primary problem. Some are speedy. Some are slow. Quicktip is speedy. OnTime LIRR is speedy. Words with Friends is snail slow. Buybuybaby is on the slow said. Then again, it was on the slow side before so, to me, it’s pretty much the same. Words with Friends is notoriously slow. Although WoF was never speedy, it also used to be far quicker than it is now and I don’t blame iOS 9 for it. I blame Zynga.
Words with Friends opened quickly during the initial days of iOS 8 but opened more slowly after Zynga updated it multiple times after the release of iOS 8. Now it opens to a black screen for a second or two before showing the app screen. I’m inclined to blame Zynga for the issue because each update makes the app slow down and buggier.
