Went to U2 last night...great show, not so great acoustics

Guess they're so big now that they have to play huge stadiums (vs small arenas). They played at NRG stadium which is where the Houston Texans football team plays. I think it must have been 50,000 people.

Anyway, it was a great show in terms of the stage setup, the music, the trip down Joshua Tree memory lane, and the extra non-JT tracks. However, acoustics in a venue that large are never going to be up to snuff and last night proved no different.

However, I'm glad I went, but this will probably be my last U2 show.

I swore off stadium shows about ten years ago; there's simply not enough emphasis on the music, it's all spectacle.

Amen, my favs are the older, 2 - 4k seat theaters. Capital/Passaic, Fox/Atlanta, Apollo/NYC, etc.

Saw U2 at Madison Square Garden in NYC twice (different tours). It seats about 20k. Although the show was GREAT, the sound was awful. The bass and volume must've been cranked up to max. Everything just echo'd and reverberated everywhere. But it was good enough for me to go a second time

During a basketball game at MSG you can hear the squeaks from sneakers on the court. The Knicks stink so there's rarely any cheering for any length of time. It's pretty silent. LOL.

The stadium is designed to reflect the roar of crowd and amplify it. As with Seattle's. They usually hang miles of fabric from the rafters to help stop sound from bouncing around especially with that roof designed to be like a tight drum trapping the sound inside the stadium.

Designed to amplify the roar of the crowd I doubt any modern NFL stadium is going to be a great venue for music beyond accommodating numbers of people.

In the last several large concerts I have been to, the sound has been terrible. I know a big indoor arena with 20,000 is people is a tough room to get the sound right, but it has terrible.
