Black window on startup
#1
20011 27" iMac has been starting with a blacked out window of whatever site I was last on. When opening from sleep ( I almost never shut down) the desktop is visible around the edges of but the window remains black for the first few seconds and then returns to normal.

Could this be an indicator of future video problems?

My mini occasionally does this also. Everything comes back to normal in a couple of seconds, and it doesn't do it all the time either.

I think that's the computer loading stuff from ram or if it's really slow, virtual ram (meaning your hard drive).

Do you have a bootable external drive you can use for comparison?

My first guess is a video card/motherboard problem, but you need to isolate those from the OS to get a better idea.

You should also disconnect peripherals when testing.

Yeah, I'm sorta hoping that's it.

I ordinarily have 2 or 3 different browsers with some combined 40 to 80 tabs open so I do work the thing like a rented mule.

Macs have always been like faithful dogs, the harder you work them the more they love you for it.
