...and double your risk of lung cancer.
:S
In reality, biologic systems, organisms (and humans!) are enormously complex, and sometimes the best intentioned and reasoned approaches backfire. Vitamin A (known to help cells differentiate and thus theoretically a cancer inhibitor) and vitamin E (an antioxidant) long ago flamed out spectacularly in smokers, increasing their risk of lung cancer by 18-28%. Now B6 and B12 go down too.
Don't smoke, cause the vitamins will definitely not save you.
Long-term use of high doses of vitamin B6 and B12 supplements has been associated with an increased risk for lung cancer. Overall, men who took these high doses over 10 years had a 2- to 4-fold increased risk for lung cancer compared with men who did not take such supplements, and the risk was particularly elevated among smokers. However, no such increase was seen in women.
