In the excitement over Tubman’s ascension and Jackson’s long-overdue demotion, it seemed to get skipped over that Jackson’s not actually getting scrubbed from the bill—he will appear on the back of the new $20. The side of American bills typically reserved for some of our finest...buildings.
Treasury Department press release Wednesday: The
reverse of the new $20 will feature images of the White House and President Andrew Jackson.

Better this way than the original proposal, which would have had him sharing the front.
Would have been awkward, him owning slaves and all.

Native Americans had slaves too, and it was common in Africa for one tribe to help the slavers capture and haul off other tribes.
Nobody has a pristine history if you scrutinize them. We're just human.
Look into King Phillip's War. An eye opener.
And a teacher's lifelong accomplishment of teaching thousands to read isn't erased by a DUI hit and run.

Couldn't you argue though that the difference between our history of slavery and saying things like Native Americans and African tribes had slaves was the magnitude of the 'crime'? Would it then not be like drawing an equivalence between what the Nazi's did in the holocaust by saying anti-semitism and anti-semtic crimes occurred in the United States as well?

Running a huge plantation in America as he did really isn't the same sort of thing as your examples.
Jackson may have had some good stuff going for him, but his endorsement of slavery and the force-relocation of indigenous and sovereign people are things that we should never forget about him.
Slavery was the source of his wealth and his gift to his son. Its endurance in the New World and the regressive attitudes of many modern Americans are his legacy.
If you want to compare, do so with a peer. Similarly situated, Jefferson worked to ban the slave trade and emancipate slaves across the nation, freeing many of his slaves before his death. (Didn't take it all the way and free them all.)
It's a good thing that his image will remain on the bill. Because it raises the specter of heck of a lot of history that people forget too easily or never learn.

The redesigned $10 bill will come out before the $20 and will feature leaders of the suffrage movement on the reverse.

I was looking forward to the trillion dollar coin talked about a few years ago and who would be on it.
