Troublesome Brother Finally Died
#1
My brother printer that is. Brother HL-L2340DW.

Bought in 2015--needed just a simple bw printer. Only to learn that Brother's OSX software/driver etc sucks hard and this has been a troublesome unit from day one.

It's been jamming paper on a regular basis. Today when the paper was pulled from the rollers the whole back half of the printer came out with it. The fuser and part of the roller.

Brother support says it's out of warranty and tough monkeys.

Sucks hard.

Awww....
My two little brothers are still printing away. B&W for proofing only, of course...

I have one and it has been printing without error BUT for some reason it takes FOREVER to print.

From the reports I have seen, I think the Brother quality may have declined in the past few years. I had an older unit that died after about 10 years, and now I use one purchased about 5 years ago. Still OK, and I like the WiFi and Duplex features, but I think the quality is a little lower.

Now I got a 3rd unit mostly because it has Airprint and duplex scanned, and at this time I have a hard time keeping the WiFi connection active. I may need to move it closer to the Base Station to see if that helps. The unit is very reliable via USB, but very temperamental on WiFi.

I've generally had good results with buying used HP small office Laserjets (aside from one problem with a JetDirect port, resolved for $20). They're tanks.

My current "favorite" printers are Samsung M4020's...
Networkable (wired), double sided, cheap toners, been reliable so far.
They are replacing my older Brother and ANCIENT HP LaserJet 4000N's as they die off or need major parts.

Must be built better than their exploding clothes washers Confusedmiley-shocked003:

All 3 of my Bros are humming along nicely, including the old antique HL-5170DN!

My troublesome brothers are still alive.

I have, and have had, a whole family of Brothers and have never had problems with driver incompatibility. The Brother proprietary drivers do work, though they look kludgey, but if you're using the CUPS open-source drivers, they even update automatically via App Store updates.

My Brother 2280DW is been great for about three years now. I think you just might have a lemon!
