Hamtramck City Hall evacuated after woman walks in with 2 grenades she found in basement
#1
HAMTRAMCK, Mich. - Hamtramck City Hall was evacuated Friday after a woman walked in with two hand grenades that she found in her basement, police said.

The woman brought the grenades to city hall to safely dispose of them, officials said. The building was evacuated as a precaution.

The Detroit police bomb squad is at the scene investigating.

“Apparently, an elderly lady was cleaning her basement after her husband died, found some grenades, and brought them into the police station,” Majewski said. “As a precaution, the Detroit Bomb Squad was called in and the building was evacuated. Luckily, they were duds.”

You think a few people are washing their underwear right now?

Why not call the police and ask where to take them? I'm SURE they would have swung by to get them........

I would have left them right where they were and called the police. I'd be afraid to walk around with them, even though yeah yeah I know you have to pull the pin but grenades still scare me.

Most grenades people "find" are practice grenades . Which are about as dangerous as throwing a small hammer.
It would be foolhardy to assume it was a dud though despite the odds.

Actually, they probably would. The responding officer would, after sizing things up, call the appropriate people (Emergency Service, Arson Squad or even just a supervisor) to safely recover the items.
