2009 Toyota Corolla, Buzzing, Humming noise ALTERNATOR?
#1
I noticed the other day a noise besides my VTI Intake Valve which is COLD NOISE AT STARTUP. But this is in addition.

Once car is started, I now turn the radio off, as I want to make the sound more noticeable.

The noise gets louder when I rev up, and if I open hood, and place a wooden towel of 3 feet on the alternator, the noise does come up to my ear. So I am thinking/hoping that it is just the alternator.

Its the kind of rev the ending humming buzzing that you might hear thru your radio, but this is actually coming from the engine near the alternator or the alternator.

Wonder what other tests I could use to pinpoint it to the alternator.

Will do the job tomorrow.

Luckily getting over this cold. Finally went to the DR. and they did a chest X-ray. Saw an area that could be an infiection or pneumonia, and gave the 5 day does of Antibiotics. Feeling better each day.

My 2009 Toyota Corolla was making a noise. Didn’t realize that it was the same noise Had 14-15 months ago, when I replaced the alternator with a rebuilt.

Could not find any sign of receipt for Alternator in my 2009 Toyota Corolla Folder.

Points for Quicken for Mac here, I searched all for references to location I knew I would have bought the alternator. Then figured it would have to be an amount spent greater than $120. I then saw there was one distinct date that also matched the stamp on the side of the alternator. 1015. So I went to the area where I store receipts by CREDIT CARD invoice. There it was, receipt for the alternator. Walked in, said it makes noise, they went to the shelf, and I now have another rebuilt for $0.00.

I now rebuilt has its draw back, but I have bought from Clarks Discount Auto, which is close to me for ever and never have had a problem.

Also, I could not get the bottom 4-5” pivot bolt out. I kept rounding the head. I had put it back in too tight. I put that PB Blaster on it, and tried all my tools but nothing. Then I research how to remove a rounded bolt and read stories on this tool.

http://www.harborfreight.com/9-pc-38-in-...67894.html

Everything I read about the tool was correct, and only 1 minute after arriving home, the bolt was turning, and out. Had to use Vise and old screwdriver to pop the tool off the 4-5” pivot bolt , but it worked great.

I had already ordered a new bolt via a phone call to my local Toyota Dealer. $4 for the bolt, is fine with me, If I learn to put it back in , NOT SO TIGHT.4

So Quicken Good. Clark Discount Auto Good, and Harbor Freight Good.

Will put together tomorrow, and thats the day I take my last pill for this pneumonia. Radiologist looked at X-ray and said YES, pneumonia.

Hope car sound quieter tomorrow.

Did the socket show any signs of wear after you removed the bolt? I've been curious about those sockets.

Racer, I looked at the 14 mm extractor from the set and it look ok. Still sharp points to do its job the next time. Next time will be on that brake job, that I could not get one of the bolts out. I will keep these. With the 20% coupon and a free LED BLUE Flashlight, came to $21. They are keepers for me.

Just picked up the new bolt from Toyota dealer, and now time to reinstall alternator. Then will be closure, hopefully quiet blissful, closure.

Except for computer settings needing to be relearned, the car started with that KNOWN VVTI Intake Gear cold start NO OIL, racket, but other than than, IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR, and is now quiet.

All is blissful now
