Wierd OT Any decent substitute for Dill when cooking?
#1
My partner has a whole bunch of food sensitivities, and a few full blown food allergies. Not anaphalactic shock, but darn near food poisoning results.

Anyway dill is one. any ideas? Not trying to match the flavor, but something nearby in flavor. Like for fish and tartar sauce, maybe eggs.egg salad.

Thanks. Cumin is another no-no, in any quantities than barely there.

According to that Google commercial, I think it's butter.

If you have a Russian or East European market nearby you, stop in and ask them.

To substitute for dill, use an equal amount of tarragon.

Fresh grated fennel or fennel seed or celery seed would by my first suggestions. Might want to check for sensitivity since they are all from Apiaceae family (a lot of possibilities in there).

Edit: I like richorlin's link.

I read somewhere that allergy to the leaf, does not necessarily mean allergy to the seed... so, if confirmed by an allergist, perhaps dill seed?

Otherwise, fresh fennel and some celery seed sound good. Perhaps add a little lime zest for that tartness?

Wild fennel grows all over the place here. That was the first thing that came to my mind.
