Am I too old and busted up to be working on my roof ?
#1
Leveling gutters last afternoon, up a good 25' on my 30' extension ladder. Everything is fine, Then I had to come down and move the ladder. And ended up toppling it over and it landed partially on my head !

My son brought me an ice pack, I iced it down to avoid a bump, put on a hard hat and continued on. And realized I needed to actually climb up the roof for the next part. It's a reasonably steep roof. I changed into hiking boots. Climbed the ladder. And thought about it. And thought about it. And came back down. The last time I did that I had to have my wife bring a smaller ladder around the back of the house so I could get down off a lower section of the roof. Because I can't move my arm well enough to get back on the ladder.

And today I'm popping Advil like crazy because my head and neck hurt like heck.

I think maybe I should hire someone to do this job. Get the gutter set properly, and get those gutter screens installed.

Did you collapse the ladder before you moved it? If you did, then I would say I agree with Acer. Sorry.

Economics 101 teaches that it's always better to hire someone when their hourly cost is less than what you could be making in that same hour. They call this "Opportunity Cost". But I've discovered that as I get older (and have more ability to pay others to do things) my "Opportunity Cost" is defined as it's better to pay someone else to do something where there's an opportunity for me to screw it up or get hurt trying to do it myself.

unless you like speding time in the hospital.

What's wrong with SON getting up there? Young folks generally heal faster. Wink

YES.

I very much like the number of cbelts we have here at MR and will not tolerate one fewer in the mix.

Even people who are young and not busted up ought to think twice before climbing up and working on a roof. It doesn't make sense unless one is a pro -- or has nothing better to do than lie in a hospital for a while.

Yes, or at least rent a manlift/lift platform instead of messing with a 30 foot ladder.
