I wouldn't count on bats having any measurable effect on your local mosquito population.
Nature abhors a vacuum and neighbors fill in the blank spot in hours if not minutes.
Woohoo! Free space !
Still cool to watch at dusk though.

I put up a bat house and never got any bats. I recommend working with a local nature conservancy or someone similar who has local expertise.

I've researched bats quite a bit. It take a long time for bats to move in, if they ever do. Still worth it to me. I also plan to install some. I'll probably make my own from inline plans. We have bats now, but I'm for helping out all I can. I also want to make some owl boxes. I used to see owls, but nit in many years, though I still hear them hooting a bit. I'm afraid owl population has declined in my area, maybe to lack of big dead trees sufficient for owl holes. Purple martins are also good for mosquito control, they need open space though.
