Man Caves

Bonus points if you have a a stack of brand-new unopened tools/equipment/stuff bought on sale for projects that were never started.

That sounds like my whole house, but I don't currently have a S.O. to rein it in.

My man cave is the garage, which has my bicycle maintenance shop, my old british sports car rebuilding shop and my woodworking shop, including all the tools to do all that work, inside. It is where I spend all of my alone time or hanging with buddies time. I don't understand the concept of a man cave where work doesn't get done and you just sit around and watch TV or play on the computer. Sounds really boring to me.

I Love You, Man!

No, not you, the movie! In it, the ultimate man cave is revealed.

As for myself, All my buildings are man caves! Stone schoolhouse has my woodworking shop in the basement, my 117 year old block barn houses my car collection, + toys such as quads, side x side, snowmobiles, motorcycles, fishing boat and canoe with all the accouterments, as well as more tools and stuff I'm working on. The house is also geared for the Man's man. Now that i'm single again, *I* control what's what.

Women are permitted in these spaces, but are not allowed to make any decorating suggestions whatsoever. That's Rick-o's law. Smileo

It's not officially a ManCave without a framed signed jersey and/or framed movie poster.
Neither of which I would want in the public areas of the house.

How about a Mr Roboto and the Hamm's Beer bear stand ups?

I, too, think that activity in the man cave should be both fun for the participants and also, generally disgusting to the spouse. For instance, I brew beer in my man cave portion of the garage. For some reason, this generally discourages visits from the rest of the household inhabitants. An oily, partially finished, car project would also serve. This would be the space to save the various treasures that are otherwise sure to make it to the garage sale pile.

I think it's like when I was 10 and had a screen-encclosed treehouse with a ladder to climb up and a trapdoor in the floor and no girls were allowed, but if we let them in once in a while, they thought it was really cool and that we weren't such morons after all, at least until the next time we didn't let them in. But at no time could they actually join the club.

So I have this conversation with a woman about how her daughter's husband has carved himself out an amazing Man Cave.

What I don't understand is why would a man relegate himself to a small portion of the dwelling he's shelling out money for every 30 days? The entire house should be his cave. She disagreed with me.
Say wha? The entire house is an 'ours' in most cases. You're free to try arguing the other half of the couple is bringing nothing of value to the table, but good luck to you on that.

And what is a Man Cave? A television and a stereo? I mean, he can't bring any women up in there (which to be fair, would require a cave).
I'd call it a Room of No Compromise. Barcalounger(s), check. Mini fridge full of cold beverage, check. Lifesize bobblehead of of My Guy from My Team? If I wanna.

The majority of the rest of the house is a negotiation. I'd burn water trying to boil it, but she's got chef mojo? Fine, gourmet kitchen for her needs, and maybe I get the John Deere of washer/dryers to ease taking on laundry duty as penance for being a kitchen hazard. Numbers and finance give her a headache? I get a tricked out home office, she gets a Home Depot credit card and a workshop for all those years she paid attention when she helped her dad around the house.

We both get a 70" big screen for the living room.

So forth and so on.

Mine is a small recording studio, and usually half a mess.
