iPhone IMEI question
#11
Again, the iPhone works just fine with my wife's prepaid SIM. I did not use the new SIM.

Also, just in case something comes up later, and I need to prove I bought this from BB, I did log in to the account and the IMEI number is listed there in the purchase details. So if I need to contact ATT, I have proof.

I'm pretty sure there's still no way around that 6 month active use restriction before unlocking.

which is fine, but again, I need to know if phone is locked or not, and I need ATT to acknowledge it is locked and start the clock (for 6 month waiting).

As of now, they say this is not their phone.

You will likely need to have an active SIM in that phone.

Keep in mind that the restrictions issue they impose can be odd. I'd still send the email - what does it cost you?

But just owning the phone is not the same as using it with an active SIM.

In fact the instructions say (Step 1a)

Already have AT&T Prepaid Service? Swap your SIM to the new phone. if it fits, you're all set!

Then they dive details what to do if SIM does not fit.

My wife’s AT&T SIM worked in her new prepaid phone for 2 days then stopped working until I sent that email.

When the restriction first t happened, my wife went to an AT&T store who had no idea what was wrong. We purchased it from Best Buy.

When I sent the email, we received the text then next day and the SIM card worked again.

I think that was a different problem, Best Buy wasn't correctly recording the serial numbers at check-out on some phones. I had that happen on one of my BB phones. At check-out they scanned the UPC a second time instead of the SN on the package. AT&T suspended my service after a few hours using that phone. I called AT&T customer service and they were able to re-activate me, said the reason showing had something to do with needing to accept terms and conditions. But I still had a BB receipt that didn't show the SN of the phone I purchased and I expected that this might cause more problems with AT&T in the future (or even AppleCare), not being able to show proof that I purchased that phone on that date, so I got BB to exchange it (due to their error, no restocking fee), and watched them carefully scan the SN bar code on the new phone.

So I really had 3 of the BB phones, but one was returned. There was a 4th one too, I ordered online for store pickup, but used a virtual credit card number to purchase, turns out that it's impossible to pick up an order if paid for with a virtual CC at BB. Never got to even touch that phone.

....AT&T used to be lenient about unlocking but people abused it on these deals.....so they then put in the 6 month restriction.....
