When you interview someone, besides the general interview questions (why you want this job, what can yo bring to the team, what is your strength, etc.) and besides technical questions related to that particular job, what else do you like to ask?

Well, there is the question about why manhole covers are round . . .
I'm always curious about what people care about, and what they spend time on outside of work, and what they get from that.
Good luck.

I try to get a flavor for how they work undirected and as part of a team. And perhaps examples.

Where would you like to be 5 years from now?
Aids with longevity, do they aspire to "get out of here ASAP" when something better comes along.

What are the requirements for the job? You should be able to figure out at least 3 or 4 questions about this.
How many times do you think it is ok to miss work? Once a week? NO! Twice a week? NO!
Once every two weeks? NO! Once every two weeks is 10%. So two weeks divided into 52 weeks is 26. 26 days a year to be absent? NO! IF they don't answer 3 days or LESS, I don't want them.
And then you TRACK their attendance. First absence, you meet with them and read their response to this interview question. How long did that first absence take?
You can train many aspects of the job. But IF they don't show up to do the job, They're gone.

No, they'll stay forever. Kidding. The job market has not been like that for nearly a complete generation now. An honest answer will consist of acknowledging the market place has been rocky, and that you hope to be both challenged and compensated based on your contribution.

IMO, questions outside of "how well can you do the job?" are only going to provide useless information that will cloud your judgment.

Only interviews I ever conducted were with condo building managers. I'd pose questions that were job-related, but didn't have obvious answers. I was most interested in seeing how they thought through the issue. So I'd ask them to tell about a time they'd handled a delicate situation correcting a unionized employee, or what tools and techniques they use to manage their time and priorities.
