I, for one, welcome our new Suidaean Overlord

Feb. 12 (UPI) -- A video spreading rapidly across social media in Hong Kong shows a monster-size wild boar standing on its hind legs to raid a dumpster.

The video, posted to Facebook by Tu Dong, shows the gargantuan pig picking through a dumpster while two piglets stand by in wait for their share of the feast.

Commenters expressed concern for the safety of children at a nearby elementary school with the "boar king" running loose.

Wild boar are common in Hong Kong, but generally steer clear of urban areas. Police said a suspected hit-and-run driver killed five young wild pigs late last month on a road inside Tai Mo Shan Country Park.

We have wild hogs running around but nothing that big. One gets hit by a car every now and then, usually kills the hog and does a lot of damage to the car. Usually occurs at night.

There's wild boar, and then there are feral piggies. No limit or season on the feral piggies.... And that's a LOT of bacon on the hoof.

There are just the beginnings of a feral pig problem in Grant Co Washington. I have plans of pig hunting in a few years when it gets worse. I just may need a bigger gun, seriously.

Per the Wikipedia link, a female and their young together is called a "sounder". So the photo shows a female.

The males are always a lot bigger than the females. No wonder parents are concerned.

Wild boar are slowly spreading across the US. They do tremendous amounts of damage and they are dangerous. Many states are starting to legalize hunting them with air rifles because airguns have a shorter range than firearms but are effective against wild boar at shorter ranges and they’re quieter. Wild boar are smart and adaptable and capable of living in close proximity to humans without the humans even knowing that they’re there. That means that hunting them often requires being in very close proximity to human habitations and suburban areas. Boar reproduce like rats. To even control their populations you must cull about 80% of the sounder just keep population growth level. A sow can have 12 piglets in a litter and they can reproduce in as little as 4 months. It isn’t so much hunting as it is depredation. Texas is being hit particularly hard.

I've read that some hunters actually move the pigs to new areas so they can have more hunting. I think that's totally irresponsible and those folks should be criminally penalized.

I agree. There are people who think that they can fence them in, but they'll dig under the fence. They'll find a way to escape. They're nasty creatures. Mean, and obviously can be very large.

Just a note; that "dumpster" is NOT the size we normally think of one being here in the U.S., and the camera is low.

Assuming it is U.S. size makes that boar seem bigger than it really is.
