Sometimes you don't buy companies for their core business. They might have wanted a patent set or some other intellectual property or customer information.

Sorry AT&T. You seem to have forgotten that DIRECTV swapped your faulty October 2007 DVR Receiver for a refurb from February of 2007. That extended your contract another 2 yrs. You can check out any time you like, but…

Actually, they are laying a fiber network in my neighborhood as we speak. I signed up for the package. Hopefully not a fools errand. I hated their Uverse package as I was too far away from the junction box to make it work. Hopefully the fiber network will be better. price is down from Spectrum, so I can't complain.

I know people who stopped using the service after AT&T took over.

Friend of mine was going off about this just this last weekend. The Death Star has ruined DirecTV. You used to be able to walk into any story and get a dish and/or receiver, now they have to be ordered, and God forbid something goes wrong (entirely likely) and you have to jump through the hoops of ATT customer-no-service.
It's a shame, DTV was the best around for quite a long time.

I've had their fiber Uverse service for about three years now, and while this is an admittedly low standard, it's about as good as landline internet and TV gets in terms of reliability. Much better than Comcast, which went out at least once a month (we average 1-2 outages a year with the fiber service) and was subject to evening slowdowns. Speed is solid and consistent around the clock (we're on the 100Mbps plan).
Not that it's great by any means, it's still AT&T, which means when you do have a problem the customer-no-service is horrendous (billing is the worst of the worst), but when it's working--which is most of the time--it's fine.
