Think about it--where is the biggest bang for a buck in using ARM instead of Intel?
It has to be laptops--much lower power consumption, typically less need for the very highest level of performance.
Prediction: We'll see ARM laptops in 2021, and they will include cellular connectivity, and amazing battery life.
Prediction: Much more emphasis on software that uses multiple cores
Prediction: At least the Mac Pro, and possibly the iMac Pro and iMac and Mac Mini, will continue Intel for at least a year, maybe 3, after the ARM MacBooks come out.
Prediction: There will be an Intel-compatible OS for perhaps 6 to 7 years after the ARM MacBooks come out.

Where is the "amazing battery life" going to come from? 2020 10.2" iPad and 12.9" iPad Pro are rated at 10 hours. This is pretty much identical to the 11" and 13" MBA models.

13" iPad Pro battery: 36.6 Wh battery
13" MacBook Pro: 58 Wh battery
Pick what you want in an A# powered MacBook Pro: longer battery life or a lighter computer.

This is the absolute perfect time for Apple to make the shift, riding in a COVID work-from-home high. The refined and revised form factors can handle basic Intel chip upgrades for the next 3 years or so (or even longer for the Mac Pro), and Catalina cleaned up all of the 32bit legacy code.
A new ARM MacBook based on the current iPad chips would be as good or better than the 2017 MacBook we own.
Love the idea of an option for 5G, one of the best example uses for 5G.

Goodbye to Bootcamp, though.
The ability to run Windows software natively was a big boon to my productivity.

Somebody beat you to it:

Apple has had great success using custom A-series silicon for its iPhones and iPads, with its iOS devices offering market-leading performance. It is now looking to achieve a similar feat with its laptops and — later — desktop Macs. Bloomberg says Apple plans to announce the transition this month, which will give time for Mac developers to get their apps ready when the first Apple ARM Mac ships in 2021.
