Warmer weather is on the way. By Monday it’ll get up to 2°F for the high. The last below zero morning will be next Thursday. (Although in the meantime the Sunday high will be -8 and the low -22.)

What warm January? We started burning wood in our fireplace insert on Dec. 1 and have only it let die down for a total of 3 days since then, very unusual for us in recent Winters, we usually have more ups and downs than that. I'm in west central NC. Starting to run low on wood.

As our weathergal has reminded us several times, coldest stretch since 1994. It’s gonna be around 4 days below zero.

That’s just air temp; not wind chill. All day, all night, for 4 days in the negative digits. Yikes.

February in Ohio is always the month when winter shows her icy teeth. We are used to it. I still remember one day about 27 years ago when it was 40 below zero in north central Ohio where we were living at the time. My father In law showed me how to keep the car engine warm enough to function with a 100W incandescent bulb under the hood.

Winter in the Tetons had been cold so far, lots of nights below zero, but right now we are having a stretch of relatively balmy 20s. Decent snow year (snowpack totals about 90% of average), but lots of wind! I had to bust through 3 ft snow drifts driving home last night and was worried about my driveway drifting in overnight, but it doesn’t look too bad. Haven’t seen the plow berm yet though.
