A video walkthrough of the supersonic land speed record from the driver/pilot
#1
Youtube thought I might be interested in this film: Thrust SSC - still the only car to travel faster than the speed of sound

It was indeed interesting. The land speed record was set in 1997 - 763mph. This video was a 20th anniversary of that flight.

The guy starts right off by saying that you probably think that a land speed record just means putting your foot all the way down and going - it's WAY more complicated than that (as you see him turning the wheel 90ยบ at 600mph just to keep in a straight line)

this really seems crazy - like way crazier than the tide pod challenge. I guarantee that I would never choose to do either, but if I was forced to choose - I'd gobble the pod.

I have a friend who did 400 mph in something like that there. He said it was pretty weird. Full lock steering to go straight.

He put it on its slide a few times. Loooooong ass crashes.

my company was one of Jessi Coomb's sponsor... her loss in a high speed accident while she was trying for another land speed record was tragic. There is a certain level of madness in those who pursue the limits of humanity and machine combined. I can recall my youthful pursuit of crazy things, and my youthful injuries and near death experiences as a result.

Now I'm not allowed to climb ladders any more... my lovely wife says she really wants me to stay alive.
