Just inherited some 1" and 1/2" pieces. I don't own a planer or a jointer however.

A friend laminates quality hardwood planks like that and makes phenominal rifle stocks out of the blanks. They never warp or twist.
I have 4 or 5 of his right now. more of collecting wooden functional sculptures at this point.
