It's proper. He was only persecuted for being a Biden.

Yes. I was sincerely hoping for this.

I'll bet they will still harass and try to drum up something on him.
I'd like to see Biden pardon himself just so SCOTUS will say no to it, removing that option from Trump later on.

Mixed feelings. But I didn't follow this story at all, so it's more a gut discomfort of the use of power.
Viscerally, though I have a difficult time with it, on the smattering I do know, compared to the carnival of horror that is MAGAnation, the most outrage I can muster is a barely cocked eyebrow and a yawn.

I'm good with this. All of the above. I believe in the rule of law, and abusing the law is unconscionable. It was clear that had it been anybody else, criminal persecution would not have occurred, given Hunter was a non-violent first time offender. This reminds me of the woman who was told she could vote and did, though she wasn't entitled (by virtue of being on parole?) and received a five-year sentence which was way out of line. I think it was later reduced to time served, or dismissed. An obvious miscarriage of justice, as was Hunter's case. Here is President Biden’s statement announcing that he is pardoning his son Hunter. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12/01/...DIuOcO8TfY&smid=url-share#biden-pardon-hunter-statement I don't think this is a gift link, but it can be read following gl's gift link.

The statement lays it out clearly. His reasoning is sound. Hunter Biden was pursued because of his relationship to the President. This is no Mark Rich pardon. Let the Right howl. At least they have Hunter's d*ck picks to remember him by.

This is what sleazy Repubs do. I was expecting better of Biden.

If he hadn't pardoned him -- and note that the pardon is very broadly worded -- then 45's corrupt appointees would have certainly gone after him with bogus charges and pursued him to his grave. They still might. Trump has no regard for the law and holds deep grudges. Would not put it past him to have his people dredge up some failure-to-signal-when-making-a-turn charge from 20 years ago and turn it into a death-penalty case. |
