why did I just receive a new Amz Prime credit card?
#1
When my other Amz cc is still good until 2028?

This one has Prime branded on the front, while the other does not.

I did recently succumb to using Amz for a few things I needed very quickly, and I joined the "one month for $1.99" deal (and did cancel in time). Does this trigger a new card and do I automatically enroll myself back in Prime if I start using this new card (as opposed to the older, still valid card)?

Just guessing, but I think Amazon is playing some games with Prime. I don't recall ever signing up for it but noticed a charge on my CC that was for a month of Prime. I quickly cancelled. This is the second time that's happened to me.

Yes, it's insane and it doesn't make any sense. Every year, I like to "extend" my Prime membership by not auto-renewing and taking advantage of the cheap trial when needed and then finally not purchasing the full year until I really need to.

This triggers AMEX to send me a new card with each change (Prime ending or starting) which is especially annoying because they are metal cards and they don't send me the envelopes anymore to send the old ones back. So the new card won't auto enroll you in Prime and they'll likely send you ANOTHER new card when your trial ends...

I've taken to not even activating the replacement cards until I'm done with all my changes and have the "final" card for the year.

wow - this is crazy! I've done lots of Prime free trails - never had an amex or amz card, but nothing funny happens to my cards when I join and cancel.

For clarity's sake, I have an Amazon branded AMEX card. If you don't have an Amazon branded card (either from AMEX, or I believe Chase issues the Visa version), then I wouldn't expect anything to happen with your cards. My AMZ AMEX card gives me 5% back when I have Prime, but only 3% back when I don't have Prime. But why they feel the need to send a new card with each change, I have no idea (since I continue using the old one just fine and they know whether to do 3% or 5% based on Prime status and not the specific card I'm using).

How many times and how often can you do a free trial of prime before you're flagged or something?
