How to reduce size of window?
#1
Hi everyone, does anyone know how to reduce the size of the forum window so that it fits horizontally across my screen? The old forum didn't seem to have such a large width...

I can get it to about 50% width in a 24" monitor at 1920x1200 res. I can see the full forum window with all of the controls, links, buttons, etc. Any chance you have browser or screen settings that have increased the size of certain elements on screen? Or are you using a 12" monitor at 640x480?

The forum is only about 1050 pixels wide - are you using a screen that is smaller than that?

Using a 15 inch MBP running Mojave and Safari.  The width of the forum screen is just over my screen width, such that I'm getting a scroll bar left and right.  I'll try to post an image:

... I'm using the default "Scaled" resolution in Sys Prefs, with the next-to-last option chosen for more space (so I could only go one size smaller for the text).

You might have the "View" zoomed in, in Safari.  Try Command-0 (Zero) to reset it to "Actual Size", or Command +/- to zoom in/out.

Ugh.  Just did command-0, now everything is tiny.  I can use command-minus to zoom out, but then all the other pages of mine in Safari are likewise reduced in size and very hard to read.

I guess I'd want some way to reduce the font sizes for the forum specifically, since this font size worked fine for the old forum (it would fit across the screen just fine).

With the Safari View option zoomed up one notch from zero, and the window scaled to the content of this forum thread, my Safari window is 1268 pixels wide.

Didn't say which 15-inch MBP, but if you're using the 15-inch 2019 then the native display is 2880 by 1800 pixels.

You'd have to scale it to the very biggest  "larger text" option -- 1024 by 640 pixels -- to cut off the edges of the window. The next-to-last "larger text" option is 1280 by 800. Should easily fit if you're using the next to last scaling setting.

So, I'm wondering whether you've got something taking up some extra space on your screen. Showing a sidebar in Safari for Bookmarks or Reading List? Some app pushing the window a few pixels to the right?

Gonna try to attach a (zipped) script for you to run in the ScriptEditor. Might be helpful.

This looks like a job for inadvisably applied magic if ever I saw one.

If you're willing to change your browser to Firefox, it will allow you to zoom only the text.

Good point. Additionally, I don’t think Safari on Mojave is fully baked.

Duh, this fixed my issue on my iPad.
