New, EyeTV2, free to everyone but loyal customers.

ElGato is now charging for the newest iteration of EyeTV software, $49 if you buy while MWSF is on, $79 later.

I can understand their need for charging money, but will they ever fix the bug riddled, crash prone version 1, which is now at 1.8.4?

While I am complaining, ElGato, please fix your EyeHome software and hardware.

I had wondered if I was the only one with some major problems with the eyetv software...

You always talk to highly about them, I assumed it was fine.

I get lockups when an export finishes. Been like that for the last 5 versions, at least. Last two versions of DivX.

Exporting to the default settings for DivX, freezes randomly when it finishes. (not always, but frequently).

Very annoying when you've got many things going on at once. I can't use 1.8.4 at all, there's a memory leak in it when exporting to DivX. It was consuming 12 GB of memory during one export, I wasn't paying attention to catch it earlier. (MDD G4 with 1.75 GB RAM, the rest was VM).

I don't think I've seen an update for the eyehome since the company changed owners. I suspect the product is just being maintained. If you can call it that.

Works fine on my 2.0 G5 with Tiger 10.4.3 and 10.4.4

There has been one firmware update of the box, took away the ability to play iTunes purchased music, and the ability to play AC3 files. And at least two EyeHome software updates, it is up to v1.7.

Grim, EyeTV is the best out there, that is the problem, since there is absolutely no competition, ElGato has sat on their laurels since they were purchased by a German company. They have cut off beta testers and absolutely don't listen to the end users. The days of the eager to please ElGato is gone, replaced by a cold corporate touch. Even the corporate phone numbers were changed, only email remains to contact anybody. The support page is useless, I have used the support entry box at least five dozen times entering bugs, and suggestions, I have never received any feedback, in over a year. In fact when I started using the Plextor ConVertX, I was having problems with audio, I finally had to call Plextor support, and they called ElGato, and I finally got an answer from Plextor.
