Best deal on no-monthly fee long distance carrier?
#1
Looking for a land-line carrier w/no fees or monthly min, and a decent per/min rate.

I have been using WorldXChange (was Acceris) no-fee @ 4.9¢/min for a few years, but just got hit w/a "low usage fee" of $2.95 added to 59mins of calls for the month. So there goes their no-fee...

Probably the cheapest is to buy a phone card at Sams/Costco. I think it's slightly less than .03 per minute. Program you phone to call the 800 number, then the card code. Takes a moment, but it's cheap.

Having said that, I use the Costco deal. I think I pay .06 without any monthly fees. There is no low usage fee.

Here is a list of some other cheap folks: . I haven't changed from Costco because I rarely use long distance on my landline anymore.

Here's a link to the people we use. We have used them for years because we make few long distance calls and they have good in-state long distance rates. We also wanted no minimum.

If, like me, you don't make many long distance calls, I think the phone cards from Costco are great, too. The best part is that I can make the call from absolutely anywhere, which is really great when you're traveling. The rate is 2.9 cents per minute, and you can use a credit card to buy more minutes just as easily as you can make a call.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, we were using this company for long distance http://www.globalfibernet.com/index.asp?...910M0GDA74

We were very happy with them and the only reason we switched is that our local phone company bundled long distance in with our in-state local, which is what 99% of our long distance calling is anyway.

We had no minimum and no monthly fee because we chose online billing. I guess if you want a paper bill, there's a fee if you don't hit the minimum.

Here's the best deal I've found, and just signed up for: BigRedwire.com
No min, no monthly fee, 2.6¢/min LD (varies by area), similarly low in-state rates, auto cc billing, and the kicker....

$5 FREE calling per month to other BigRedWire users. Which is a few hours worth of free calls. Goodbye, Acceris.

oh yeah, cheap int'l rates, too. (5¢ to W. Europe, 8¢ Mexico City, etc) Expensive to AK and HI, though.

globalfibernet is also
http://www.039centsperminute.com/

right now i use Verizon's bundled plan, mostly because 1) it's one less bill to pay every month, and 2) my wife hates calling cards.

I ran into 039centsperminute.com awhile back, and have had no real reason to change.

Their interstate rates are 3.85 cents/minute for me, but in-state--which is where we do a lot of calling--is 2.65 cents/minute.

It's pretty much free, as far as I'm concerned.

And then there's the cell phone with its nights and weekends...

Been happy with TotalCall international. Had them for years 4.9¢ per, 6 second billing, never any billing or performance issues.
