OK, I've now added a G4 iBook to my stable of Macs....

Slot loading?! what a surprise. Any problems with the slot loader? I have never had any problems with my old Snowball iMac but...? I do like slot loading, however.

I'm going to let the movie play and play to check and make sure my G4 is sound. Like the keyboard better than the G3 ibook. I hate the G3 keyboard for some reason...I can't type on it but my daughter loves it.

I am running OSX4.4 surprise surprise. I'm going to try out the programs I use and ones for the OS9.2.2 my daughter uses to see if they still will work.

I don't know about or what a Widget is or some of the kindergarten icons are...but don't grunch at me...I'm not rooted in granite...I'm trying out the G4. Just takes me longer to move!

A fine purchase! Love my iBook! Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin.

Never felt the need to run OS 9, but it's there if needed.

Haven't upgraded yet to Tiger, but will probably do the deed this summer.

It's a fun machine that's often maligned when compared to the Powerbooks of the same incarnation, but for the sound and video work it does on stage for me, it purrs right along w/o complaint.

A hardy little machine. Take a bow.

Leader!

Much nicer than the flimsy feeling iBook G3 tray-loader, in my opinion...

There are two problems that I'm aware of. Both of these you can avoid.
I've not had direct experience with either of these two issues, but I've read about them.

1. Don't insert the mini-CDs. These are business card-sized CD-ROMs. They won't eject back out.

2 Don't insert CDs/DVDs that have adhesive labels. These would be done with a do-it-yourself labeling kit. If the label peels up while it is in there, the CD/DVD will stick inside the drive.

Other than that, I like the idea of a slot-loader in a laptop. The tray on my iBook always feels so fragile. I'm with Paul F. on that.

P.S. Leader! I'm jealous. I want one.

Congrats, Suzanne . . . widgets are pretty cool . . . F12 to invoke and F12 to make go away . . . many to choose from:

This is separate from the site on Apple . . .

On the iBook, because F12 is also the eject key, you need to hold down the fn key and the F12 to activate the Widgets.
Good luck with the iBook, I love mine, it's one of the best Macs I've ever owned.
