So here's a situation just begging for opinions.
We sort of inherited a loaded 2005 Subaru Outback wagon when my mother-in-law passed away last October. It's a beautiful vehicle and drives very nicely. But here's the problem. At 6'2", I'm far from a giant, but I can't get comfortable in the damn thing. The power driver's seat lets me adjust it any number of ways, but it can still go only so far back.
So yesterday my wife asked if I wanted to consider selling it or trading it in towards something else. My first thought was that I don't even want to bother, but as I think about it, I guess it wouldn't hurt to see what else is out there that might be a better fit. One problem is, I don't want to have a car payment. So, don't be suggesting a Mercedes or Acura. And being in MA and subject to our wacky winters, I like having the AWD, but I'm not locked into that.
My wife has a Mazda Tribute which she loves. It's the only vehicle I've ever driven where I actually have to move the seat forward to feel comfortable driving. However, I don't like the way it drives. I'm comfortable in my MPV minivan, but maybe that's partially because of the upright seating.
I know style is a very personal thing, and one man's fugly is another's sharp. And I'd still like to find something with decent gas mileage. I kind of like the Hyundai Santa Fe, but that thought is greeted by my wife with "You don't want a Hyundai." And since it was her mom's car...
I figure when I bring the Outback in for its next service, I'll check out the Forester to see if it has any more room. I'm also going to ask if the dealer can install some kind of seat rail extender, which could be an simple solution. But that may be impossible because of the fact that it's a power seat.
Anyway, I realize that leaves about a thousand possibilities, but feel free to let fly with some suggestions.
