OS X Semi-Newbie Question Returns

How can I get my menu bar clock to show up in all applications the way that it did in OS 9? I'm tired of switching to the finder just to get the time.

Open 'System Preferences'

Click on 'Date & Time'

Click on the 'Clock' tab

Click on the 'View in: Menu Bar' selection


That should do it.

Thanks, yes, I have that option checked, but generally the clock only shows up in the finder. In Safari and Entourage, for example, no sign of the clock, whereas in 0S 9 you always see it, which is what I miss.

The menubar is always at the top MG, the clock is always visible, what are you talking about? I'm in Safari now.

You CAN'T get the menu bar to go away in OS X, except for in programs like Quicktime or DVD Player for Fullscreen options. The clock is always there if you've turned it on. If it isn't there and you've turned it on something is wrong.

Do you have other, option icons in your menu bar? For instance, he might have the apple script, keyboard viewer, etc, etc, etc, which would push the OSes clock leftward. So when apps with a lot menus are at the forefront, it would block the clock.

You can have a ton of menubar icons, what with airport, battery life, sound, monitor, not to mention apps like quicksilver and so on.

Ah, yes, Grumpy, that's probably the answer. In OS 9, the clock took precedence, no matter how many extras you had or how far right the applications menus went.

Ah, I just checked at the higher resolution, and it's there, so I guess it's a question of screen real estate. Now if I could just get used to it...

You can move many icons around in the menu bar by dragging them with the Command-Key held down. So he could move the clock to the right so it will display in Safari.
