What's wrong with some people?
#1
Why is it that some people choose to be total chodes when granted anonymity, like in discussion forums and the like? I really wonder what the whole psychology of it is. I mean - I, too, could choose to make snap judgements about others and post comments intended to demean or start a fracas, but I choose not to. Have I just not developed the aggressive A-hole gene?

Even in high school, when kids would get into fist-fights and others would rally around to see and further instigate by cheering it on, I chose to keep my seat, ignoring it all - it was really beneath my notice, or, at least, my participation.

I think it has something to do with the internet being a fairly crude means of personal communication.

Why would you expect those you encounter on an internet forum to be any more or less civilized than people in general.

Would you complain if you encountered people you didn't care for on a subway or if you ran into someone you found disagreeable at your local bowling alley or church?

chas m dosen't use window dressing, so what?

The internet mirrors real-life (which is full of chodes).

There was nothing wrong with chas_m's response, if that's what you're talking about.

If you think that was somehow "rude" and "offensive" and "out of bounds" for "polite society", you live a very sheltered life and need to get out more.
