Modem, Router, VoIP madness.

Ok, somebody better help me before I explode.

Here's my setup and problem.

1 G4 dualie MDD 867 ghz (tiger)
1 Ibook G4 1.25 ghz (tiger) wireless
1. Vonage phone
1 PS2

Each of these connects to my network through a lynxsys wireless router 802.11b I think.

For about 2 months I have been getting dropped calls on my VoiP phone, after about 15 minutes I will often lose outgoing voice on phone calls. I am pretty sure this is because my Vonage is running from behind the firewall. I can't put it outside the firewall because there's only one ethernet plug on the adapter I have.

Ok, so I CAN use the router utility to open the Vonage ports on my network. Problem is about every 2 days the router seems to be rotating my addresses.

How can I assign static addresses to each device behind my firewall? I couldn't find a step by step for this in the linksys manual.

Can somebody point me to a SIMPLE tutorial for this set up?

Ok, Router is a Linxsys 3839A - W11S4V4

Reading through the earlier posted link suggests there might be a problem with Comcast and Vonage. I might not be able to fix that. I thought that might be what's going on the problem started about the same time Comcast unrolled their own VoiP service. Thanks for that link!

I still need a guide for getting each machine to keep it's router assigned address indefinitely. I apologize if this is really obvious I just couldn't find it.

Your IP phone gets an IP address, right? Set it up so the router always gives it the same address. Now set that address as the "DMZ" or forward ports to it.

(I've never used VOIP phone but this plan makes sense from a server standpoint)

I says in the Vonage manual that 'DMZ' does not work for a VoiP phone, it doesn't give a reason though.

I would like to give static addresses to every device on the network. I'm just not sure how to set this up. Do I need to change each device from DHCP to something else? What's this setting called in the router utility? Where is it?

I know I must have seen it in the router utility but I'm not sure how to implement it without screwing anything up.

static addresses - some routers allow assigning IP addressed based on MAC address. You can also set the client machines to "Using DHCP with manual address" and then type in the IP address manually - select something outside the range of what the router is assigning.

Look for "DHCP server"

you probably need to call vonage to make sure you're correctly configured.

I'm going to try this when I get home.

Last time I tried to use "DHCP with Static address" I was experimenting with the G4 tower. I would try to use one of the first four that my Router was assigning (100, 101, 102..etc)

I would lose any internet connection I had. I will try and use hight numbers tonight.

Are there settings I need to change on the router as well? After I give them addresses will the router still change them?
